Oktoberfest: A Fond Farewell

Ok, this is the last Oktoberfest post. The Spanish speakers had just left and we slid down to give the Scottish and his gang more room. At some point a few Germans showed up. Two guys and two gals. The guys were bums, one of them was just sitting there, not talking, not drinking. The other guy wasn't doing much more, so it was easy to entertain their ladies. I wasn't about to try to cheer up the guys. The girls were pretty fun. Caroline and Sabrina were their names.

Sabrina was from Frankfurt. That's her above. When I first talked to her she did not believe me that I was from America. After trying to convince her I leaned over to Sean and said, "hey, this chick doesn't believe I'm from America." Sean yells to her (it was loud in there,) "Yeah, he is from Wisconsin." She says, "ah, he just told you to say that." Ha. Cute girl, gorgeous eyes.

Caroline was a bit of a firecracker. She was fond of the F word. She would not tell me the name of this city she was from, but kept saying, "it's the place where the Walt Disney castle is." I'd say, "I know! But what is the name of the city?" eh, it is in southern Germany near Austria an hour out of Munich. I have a great video of her. I took several videos while we were there. Whenever I would hold up the camera everyone would pose. Then I would tell them it is a video and the chicks would always squirm and try to get out of it.

I don't want a part in your Wideo. She had an odd accent, but the W in Video was very German.

Just past us, about half a dozen tables was the balcony. You can see it in many of the photos. There happened to be a blond up there, just a few tables to the right. Throughout the day she was looking down to us, we would raise our glasses together, wave, general long distance flirting and things like that. I learned later that Sean was doing the same (I really don't pay much attention to him.)

(This is about the only evidence I have of the blond. At 0:25 you will see her up on the balcony clapping. We tried to take some photos but they never worked. Also, next time I'll try to take less shaky videos. It is hard when everyone is bouncing and swinging.)

At some point I motioned to the blond to come down by us. There was room. So I pointed at her, then by me. She pointed to her friend. Two of them - great. So I held up two fingers and motioned to two seats by us. Now at this point it got interesting. She apparently had a guy next to her who wasn't too fond of this. So he leans over her and holds up his index finger (1) then two fingers (the index and middle finger, 2) and then reverts to just the middle finger. Ha - 1,2, f-you. Yeah, so he wasn't happy. I was down below returning the favor to him when the girls started arguing with him and eventually they left. Unfortunately they never came down. This was also close to the time we had to leave.

I leaned over and told Sean what had happened. We concluded that the guy was a douche, but it was a rather creative way to flick us off. Sean took a photo of him later. That is him in the middle in a yellow shirt, flicking us off some more and sulking because the girls left.

A beer later I convinced Sean that we really needed to go, though, I didn't want to leave either. Sean was in front of me as we were heading out. Just as a last goodbye I stopped to talked to the girls in green and blue in the photo above. I must have been pretty drunk at this point. We did drink 4 liters of beer in a few hours. I found out they were from Canadia (I love calling it Canadia.) I told them how beautiful they were and how beautiful all the Canadian girls are and stole a kiss on the cheek from the girl in blue. Then I was on my way :) Yeah, that is drunk Eric.

I took this photo on the way in of the way out. That was a good thing because on the way out it didn't even cross my mind. After leaving we scurried to Fabians place. He had a guest book, so I wrote some drunken nice things for him and gave him our email addresses. We had our stuff all packed up, after one last check we left for the main train station. We got there, made it to our train on time and took a deep breath. It's pretty good when we can do the whole system completely drunk. There was hardly anyone on the train.

That is Sean and me in the diner on the train. We made it back to Gottingen at around 11pm and walked home. On the way back we stopped to get a Doner at our favorite place in town. We got back and crashed. We tried to make it to work the next day, but that was not happening. Instead we hung out with Mira and showed her the photos and told her the stories and drank coffee and ate pastries.

It was a great trip. Before I left I was talking to my little sister, who I miss very much. I told her that we were going to Munich. She said, "what's that?" I laughed and said it is a big city in Germany. Then I said, "we are going to Oktoberfest" she said, "what's that." What are they teaching these kids!? :) So I explained to her what Oktoberfest is. When I said goodbye to her she said, "Have fun at your beer drinking festival." :) Well, that's was it was. You all really need to go, it was really great. Sean and I are already planning to go next year. -Eric
